week 11 Maker Movement

The maker movement began first in 1900 as art&crafts and than ,in 1960 it was known as ' HACK' ,in 1990 they named it :DIY(do it yourself) and after 2005 it changed its name as Maker Movement. While I was searching on the net aboout this movement I read one of quotoes that I want to  share with you ; There is something calming or reassuring or relaxing that happens when you build something with your hands. You ve just made something bigger than yourself You are not just being a consumer anymore ‘’ Andrew Sliwinski quoted in the New york Times (2011)I totally agree with this sentences, doing something with your own is really something different it doesn’t matter how old you are..even if you are a child in kindergarden or a person at your 30s if you create something by your own,it becomes more meaningful for you.
After we came to 21st century technology improved amazingly, our fear of technolgy often stems from not undertsanding how it works but after 2005 breaking things  down became the best way to undertsand their component parts. For example there are kits like little bits which allow anyone to learn play and make with basic electronics and circuits and these intend to create good and help everyone have a basic undertsanding of technology.
There are lots of amazing things that has been done in this field sometimes we heard about them andread in news or see at the Televisions and surprised and feel hesitation about the new technological inventions.(like 3 D printings, a Project that turns an Iphone into a microscope monitor, open source DIY electric cars an ardunios that created lots of amazing things with this movement)
Especaially around 2014 President Obama issued a call to action that’’every company every college every community every citizen joins us as we lift up makers and builders and doers across country’’ After becoming popular in USA it has started to be more popular in each country and also in Turkey.
Now lots of private schools make their advertisement with saying we have maker classes or programme, and they gave courses or workshops about this field and this make lots of private school special ,different and preferable. When I think the meaning of movement for education I can say that;Making is learning you can not totally learn without experiencing it,this maker movement the maker faires that orginized in Europe will have positive effect on learning and teaching at schools also and it will inevitably change the nature of our educational system.
About stem I have also did some projects about stem even if I am an English teacher:)The partners of the project were from different countires in Europe ,it was really enjoyable and useful project,I will metion about this project at our online lesson, please remind me if you wonder it:)
When it comes to my question; I really wonder your thoughts about implementation of this maker movement in schools. Do you think Schools are really aware of what maker movement is ? And Do you believe that  state schools' children can have a chance to attend these maker faires or to reach some of the technological kits, arduino sets as they are really expensive? Or without these equipments how can a 21st century teacher do maker movement in her school or class?
